Fort Gilkicker. A disused Fort on the Gosport peninsular near Portsmouth Harbour, built between 1863 and 1869 and used to defend the deep water anchorage of Spithead in The Solent.
It now lies derelict and awaiting conversion to luxury flats.
A constant here has been the natural history. Habitat here includes shingle beach and heathland. Great for resident or migrant species.
I had a couple of hours spare at the end of a working day at the end of Summer. A great way to wind down....
This afternoon was all about the Butterflies bar one or two. It was very warm, little wind which made for a pleasant walk. I'll let the pictures tell the story....
